About This Piece

Magnificent proof in bronze with black and green patina, signed Adrien Etienne Gaudez (1845-1902), famous French sculptor, gold medalist at the World Fair in Paris in 1889.
This work is 67 cm high and is presented on a large rotating base. It depicts David, the future king of Israel, slaying the Philistine hero, the giant Goliath, with a stone thrown from a sling.
This biblical episode was chosen by the artist to salute courage and strength, accentuated by the beauty and impressive size of this bronze.
David is depicted naked, dressed only in a sheepskin around his hips. His athletic body is perfectly drawn. In his right hand, he holds his slingshot firmly. His appearance is haughty and glorious, his face with a perfect physiognomy is raised and surrounded by soft hair.
