This is an extremely rare wool rug signed by Maurice Dufrene and manufactured by La Maitrise in 1922. It is a museum piece, with an incredible presence. It can be hung on the wall or place in a boudoir lounge.

From 1921 onwards, Maurice Dufrene directed La Maîtrise des Galeries Lafayette. This workshop dedicated to Applied Art has as a guideline to produce works (furniture, fabrics, rugs, wallpapers, ceramics etc.) within reach of all budgets. This is a very new direction at a time when most cabinetmakers are engaged in very advanced research into materials and craftsmanship and thus limit their production to a wealthy elite. His ability to adapt his creations to the evolution of taste will make him an essential figure in the Art Deco movement.
