Important brown patina bronze signed on the terrace Jean Baptiste Germain Bronze "La Jeune Fille à la Cruche Cassée", signed J-B.Germain - Late 19th century (1841-1910). This French sculptor, a pupil of Dumont and Gumery, was honored by his peers at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.
"La Jeune Fille à la Cruche Cassée" (Young Girl with a Broken Pitcher) depicts a young woman standing beside her broken pitcher on the ground, looking distraught and clutching her long, pleated dress with both hands.
This work carries a moralizing warning. The broken jug is a well-known symbol of the loss of virginity.
Taking on a new dimension, this print will appeal above all for its finesse.
