Fluted round base with laurel wreath frieze on a gilt bronze rectangular plinth mounted on a green marble base. The round base carries a hemispherical bowl which, together with the likewise hemispherical lid, forms a sphere. Bowl and lid bear finely chased, radially applied lancet leaf reliefs, the bowl rim shows a frieze of openwork pearl pattern cartouches alternating with 6 button-like decorative knobs, the heads of which are decorated with classical rosettes. Inside the bowl there is a small, fixed tazza for holding aromatic oils or herbs, the scents of which can spread through the openwork relief friezes of the bowl and lid and through a funnel-shaped opening at the top of the lid.
