This item is raw and sturdy. Its rugged textures and bold lines define that radical character. Its presence is uncompromising and captivating. Each piece is slightly different, where the imprecision and imperfection offer an enriching quality. Signs of age, patina, and the traces of use enhance the character of this piece. All massive parts are authentic. They are done in Indian teak. Rich in texture, the wood is vivid and comes in cognac colour. The surface is treated with shellac and there are several layers of original shellac. It provides smooth irregular gloss different from that of the sterile lacquerware nowadays X-legs are a specific feature of Jeanneret’s creations in Chandigarh. The expressive quality of the big X gives the impression that the entire item is pressed down. The beams get slightly wider at the intersection of the X, as they tend to visualize the weight they carry. The playfulness and asymmetry of the item is achieved through introduction of the element with the drawers on the other side. This desk has an original veneer on the top, which is very rare. The surface has been treated with shellac. I think the piece blends well with many interior styles. It can support pure, modern aesthetics by giving them a warmer character with its natural materials and warm colours. As a desk, it finds its place as a sculptural object in interior spaces. P!
