In collaboration with LARRY’S LIST, we present the special editorial series: Collectible Design Season! As the world's leading art collector editorial, LARRY'S LIST conducts weekly interviews with international art collectors, private museum founders, and interior designers. Together, we give voices to four contemporary designers whose elegant and one-of-a-kind collectible design works are the perfect addition to any art collector's crib: Joa Herrenknecht, Maarten Baas, Noe Kuremoto, and Elisa Strozyk.
For the debut of this series, LARRY’S LIST and PAMONO spoke to female contemporary furniture and product designer Joa Herrenknecht.
Born in Canada and raised in Germany, Joa works independently for international furniture companies from her design studio based in Berlin. Last year, Joa co-founded 'Matter of Course' - an all-female design collective of 11 designers based in Berlin. She shared how contemporary design and architecture have influenced her creations; the designers who inspire her the most; and what is on her own collectible design wish list. She discusses her upcoming projects and how she would like to shift the paradigm of male dominance in design through Matter of Course. Read the story here!
Continuing the series, we spoke to ceramic artist Noe Kuremoto. Graduated in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art, Osaka-born Kuremoto is known for her playful sculptural work, fusing fine art and design with her cultural heritage. She shared about the top places she visits in London to get inspired, the artists who inspire her the most, her Haniwa collection, and the most interesting thing about using clay as her core material of expression. Read the interview!
With an education background in textile design, Elisa Strozyk’s signature design merges textile and furniture design, pushing the boundaries between 2D and 3D, hard and soft materials, switching meanings and categories. Elisa’s work has been shown at Milan Furniture Fair, Design Miami, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. She received the German Design Award from the German Design Council and the German Ministry of Economics. In the third interview of our Collectible Design series, she shares her number-one rule in designing collectible objects or furniture, her sources of inspiration, and the commonalities she has observed among her clientele. Considered one of the most influential Dutch designers of the beginning of the 21st century, Maarten Baas studied at the renowned Design Academy Eindhoven and is often described as an “author designer”. His work is known as rebellious, playful, intellectual, theatrical, and artistic, ranging from conceptual designs, limited editions, production design, and installation to public space, architecture, interior design, theater design, and performances. In our last interview, Maarten shared insights into his art and design practice. Read the interview here!
