About This Piece

A gentle and soothing mid-century double-sided painting with a still life at the front and a portrait on reverse, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1959. The composition features an assortment of jugs and vases arranged on a flat surface. The objects include a green bottle, a beige round jug, a yellowish earthenware pot, and a teal vase, along with a small orange-brown form that resembles a piece of fruit. The background is divided into abstract sections of muted colours, such as pale grey. soft blues, and warm ochre, providing a neutral yet subtly textured backdrop. The overall colour palette is subdued, dominated by muted earthy greens, blues, and yellows, infusing the painting with a soothing quality. This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor scuffing. Size: 54 x 64 cm (including frame)
